A Mission?

There’s got to be more to my life than 24/7 housekeeping and fighting children, right Lord?

This has been a tough year — for everyone. We’ve all faced challenges we haven’t faced before. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but not always an EASY thing either. In my piece of the world, we’ve had a lot more family time this year. My kids and I have all gotten to know each other better than before. Which is funny, because if you had asked me before a global pandemic, I would have said we were close. And we were. But now even more so. And while that has been a blessing, it has come with it’s own challenges. Over the past year, I’ve reached the point several times of really struggling with so much “kid time”. I mean, seriously, a person can only handle so much middle school humor! It was difficult for me to embrace a schedule of day-after-day-after-day doing what felt like nothing but entertaining, feeding, cleaning up after, and referee-ing a houseful of children. Several times, I found myself locked in my room to pray, catch my breath, and get my act together before moving on to the next period of entertaining, feeding, cleaning up after, and referee-ing. And sadly, I reached the point of truly disliking my life. That’s where the idea of This Mother’s Mission was born. A place to keep my focus of what is most important. A place to remind me that these days filled with mundane tasks are actually days filled with opportunities to work the mission God has called me to. Because THIS is my mission right now.

So I’ll mostly be talking about my mundane days. Exciting stuff, right? But hopefully sprinkled throughout the mundane will be some hard-learned wisdom and truths we can all use.

And if you’re currently locked in your room getting your act together, it’s OK! Just don’t wait too long to get back to YOUR mission. Because we all know what can happen when mom leaves the mission-field unattended for too long 🙂
